The One About Wrecking This Journal With Tape

Jan 23, 2009 written by Queen Beader |

I decided that the cover of my journal needed something more then just doodles. So, I used a bunch of this colored masking tape I had (I don’t really remember the project I had in mind when I purchased it). I tried to do some designs with it but it was so much easier and fun to just wrap it around from front to inside. I lost count of how many rolls of tape I used and I probably covered several of the colors so you can’t see them but I like the outcome. Not only does it look neat, but it feels all squishy. Both sides of the cover look different which I love.

I also had some very Christmas-ish metallic tape, so a couple days after I did the cover (today, actually) I decided to decorate one of the inside pages (actually the first page) with it. Again, I tried to make designs but I quickly gave that up and just tried to wrap the page like I did the cover. This time, the tape had a mind of it’s own. It didn’t stay straight so some parts got the sticky side showing instead of the colored side. And it warped and bent the page. The finished page looks like a weird 3D metallic tape sculpture or like I squished a Christmas present in my journal (it won’t close flat anymore). Doing this page was very zen. I told hubby it was like creative meditation. I worked on the journal today because I was kind of scatterbrained in terms of which craft project to start. By the time I finished this page, I had a whole new idea in mind involving the plastic circles from the tape rolls and embroidery thread and actually spent some time figuring out how to make it work. I still haven’t perfected it yet but my mind is less creativity cluttered.
